About The CAD Geek

Donnie is jointly responsible for the technical support and training provided to all CAD staff at his firm.  Among his specific responsibilities is the development and delivery of customized training programs which focus on the utilization of real-world project data and design scenarios. Insuring CAD staff have the right tools for the job, he is also cooperatively responsible for the implementation of CAD Standards and software upgrades.

Summary of Professional Experience

Leading a peripatetic existence within Timmons Group, Donnie has been an employee of Timmons for more than five years.  Getting his start at Timmons in a design role, he has since excelled to his current position as Design Systems Specialist.  In that role his personal mantra is quite simply to “empower CAD designers” by rendering an unparalleled commitment to each and every user.  Such a commitment parallels itself in establishing a more knowledgeable staff who consequently can work more efficiently.

These efforts are illustrated in the extensive amount of time Donnie dedicates not only to group training, but also one-on-one training which is often task specific.  Recognizing the one indisputable limitation to a staff’s efficiency is directly linked to the tools provided to them; Donnie works tirelessly to insure users are able to utilize some of the best tools in the industry.  Among the tools he fosters an intimate knowledge of is: AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Map 3D, Land Desktop, Raster Design, and Design Review.

Introduced to AutoCAD his freshman year of high school, Donnie soon established himself as a top student in each of his classes.  His expertise soon translated to winning numerous awards in various CAD competitions throughout his tenure in high school.  Upon graduation Donnie was presented with the first Level III CAD Certificate in the history of Hermitage Technical Center.

A proven communicator, he has reached thousands of individuals worldwide through numerous publications and various public speaking engagements.  Training and public speaking engagements have ranged in size from a mere few individuals to an arena packed with more than 60,000 individuals.  As a columnist for AUGIWorld magazine his writing has been distributed to CAD users around the world in more than 225 countries.  His evangelistic nature is further illustrated by stats from his CAD Blog which has been visited by thousands of users in numerous countries worldwide.  Featured by industry leading organizations such as TenLinks, Civil3D.com, CAD Digest, and even Autodesk, his blog has quickly become a leader throughout the CAD industry.

Donnie’s professional reputation has been founded upon both integrity and loyalty.  These ideals are illustrated by his passion for empowering CAD professionals not only within his own firm, but throughout the industry as a whole.  Proof his peripatetic existence extends well beyond the walls of Timmons Group.
